Double House + Gallery
The program Double House + Gallery is
located in 123 Victoria Street, Potts Point Sydney. The unique site provides a distinction transition between dense
streetscape and panorama city view.
According to the
program that is the combination of a public gallery and two private units, the
basic strategy of this program is having the gallery space which is public
access at ground level and front of the site, locating the private living
spaces at upper level and back of the site which could not be directly
accessed. The clients of this program are an art collector who holding a
gallery and a painter who is the friend with the art collector, consequently,
the connection between the gallery and art collector’s unit, the relationship
between two units, and the relationship between both units and gardens have
been carefully considered and planed.
The concept of the double house is providing a simple living
space while bring outside garden and contexts into the spaces which allow the
maximum connection between inside and outside contexts to achieve pleasure
within the living spaces. There
are two gardens within the site, a protected garden located in the gallery
space that could be public accessed and an entire private garden offer for the
clients at the back of the site that only can be accessed thought units. The living and dinning space at both
units are located at the city side of site with full height glazed panel which
allow the open up view to the great city and harbour view as well get north
sunlight, meanwhile the window at kitchen area that open to the protected
garden giving a sense of peace and clam into inside space. Thus, both of units
could own and enjoy two gardens at the same time.
Furthermore, the shared
private garden at the back of the site plays an very important role in this
program. The garden is half outdoor and half shaded, it could be accessed
through a vertical staircase from both units. There are swimming pool and
sitting area within the garden that offers a great and private space for the
clients to meet and enjoy the open view of city contexts.
